How to compare and specify this product family
For ProdataKey Readers, Wireless Locks and Credentials, the right model and architecture depend on the site, existing infrastructure and operating policy. A proposal should clearly document the following electronic lock and door-hardware system decisions before equipment is ordered:
- Opening type, handing, frame and door condition
- Fire rating, egress, accessibility and code constraints
- Fail-safe or fail-secure operation and emergency release
- Credential, reader and controller compatibility
- Battery, wireless gateway and offline behavior
- Mechanical key override, maintenance and lifecycle support
Installation, testing and handoff
Each opening is surveyed as a complete assembly. We verify the door, frame, handing, existing prep, latching, closer, egress hardware, power path and the required emergency behavior before specifying a lock. Installation includes alignment and mechanical correction within scope, cable and power testing, credential enrollment, door-state and request-to-exit tests, and failure-mode verification. The owner receives opening schedules, administrator guidance and maintenance requirements; private credential data and certificate details are not published.

How do we pick between mullion, single-gang and keypad readers?
Mounting and entry method decide it. Red mullion readers suit narrow frame mounting, single-gang readers suit a standard box in the wall, and keypad readers go where a PIN is part of the entry. Rugged and heavy-duty options cover exposed openings, so environmental exposure is recorded next to the mounting note for every door.
Are the high-security credentials worth it over what we carry now?
That depends on the credential security level you are targeting and on what your current cards are. PDK lists high-security Red credentials alongside mobile and physical credential options, and the mobile versus physical split is a written policy question involving HR and IT, not just a hardware order. Settle the policy first, then order credentials to match it.
There is no cable path to an interior office door. What are the options?
Red Wireless cylindrical and deadbolt locks cover openings where a cable pull is not practical, with repeaters where wireless coverage needs help. The survey checks distance, the construction between the lock and the system, door prep and the required online status for that opening, since a door that must report continuously is a different design than a storeroom.
How does the system tell a normal exit from a forced door?
REX sensors mark the legitimate exit, so the design lists the REX device for each opening along with the door contact and the free-egress hardware. An opening where people leave through a push bar and an opening with a motion style REX get different notes on the schedule, and both are tested door by door at commissioning.
Do our existing PDK readers have to be replaced to expand?
PDK supports Touch io and legacy readers as well as the Red line, so suitable existing readers can stay in place while new openings get current hardware. Each reader is inventoried and compatibility validated against the ProdataKey controllers in the system before anything is reused, and mixed-generation sites are handled as a per-door list.
How do delivery drivers and visitors get through without issuing cards?
QR and push-button devices are the options PDK lists for entries that do not warrant a credential. Which openings use them is a policy call recorded with the credential policy, because a QR entry at a loading dock and a push-button release at a staffed desk carry different risk. Note who may issue those entries and for how long.
