Automatic operators and complete entrance systems for accessible, high-traffic and hands-free building entry.

What this product family does
A complete automatic-door design includes the operator, door/panel system, activation and presence sensors, safety controls, header/track, locks, breakaway or emergency behavior and the surrounding entrance condition. Selection is based on opening type, traffic, wind, building pressure, accessibility and code.
Products and decisions
| Product area | What it includes | Selection guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Low-energy swing | Operator added to a suitable swing door | Survey door/hinges/closer, push plates or touchless activation and safety |
| Full-power swing | High-traffic automated swing entrance | Requires a complete sensor and safety-zone design |
| Sliding entrance | Automatic sliding panels, header, track and sensors | Coordinate clear opening, breakout, floor condition, weather and security locking |
| Controls | Activation, presence, safety and access-control interface | Write the sequence for normal, locked, fire and power-failure modes |
Questions to answer before quoting

How to compare and specify this product family
For dormakaba Automatic Swing and Sliding Doors, the right model and architecture depend on the site, existing infrastructure and operating policy. A proposal should clearly document the following vehicle gate and traffic-control system decisions before equipment is ordered:
- Gate type, weight, length and travel
- Daily cycles and peak traffic
- Monitored entrapment-protection devices
- Vehicle loops, photo eyes and safety edges
- Fire-department and emergency access
- Power, backup operation and preventive maintenance
Installation, testing and handoff
A site review verifies gate construction, travel, wind exposure, traffic flow, power and the required monitored safety devices before an operator is chosen. The final scope should identify controls, loops, photo eyes, edges, access-control interfaces, emergency operation and signage. Commissioning includes force and safety-device tests, access tests, operator limits, user training and a maintenance schedule. Existing gates may require mechanical correction before automation can be installed safely.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about specifying automatic swing operators and sliding entrances around the opening, the traffic it carries and the required operating sequence.
Our door already has hinges and a closer. Is a low-energy operator enough, or do we need a full-power swing entrance?
A low-energy swing operator is added to a suitable existing swing door, so it starts from what you already have, while a full-power swing entrance is built for high traffic and requires a complete sensor and safety-zone design. Traffic volume decides between them. On the low-energy path, the door, hinges, closer, push plates or touchless activation and safety are surveyed first.
What is actually included when we buy a sliding entrance?
A sliding entrance is a system rather than a motor: automatic sliding panels, header, track and sensors are supplied and coordinated as one package. Clear opening, breakout, floor condition, weather exposure and security locking are coordinated with them. Activation, presence, safety and the access-control interface are specified alongside the panels instead of being added once the header is set.
What do you measure before quoting an automatic entrance?
Opening measurements and door condition come first, then the required clear width for ADA and code, then traffic, wind and stack pressure at that entrance. Those figures decide whether an operator can be added to the existing door or the entrance has to be rebuilt. Access control, fire alarm and after-hours locking requirements are collected in the same visit.
Can an automatic entrance be installed before the floor and surrounding construction are finished?
Not a sliding entrance, because floor condition and breakout are coordinated with the header, track and panels; a floor finished later can shift panel alignment and the clear opening. Weather exposure and the surrounding entrance condition are reviewed at the same stage. Schedule the entrance work after the opening reaches its final condition.
Who decides what the entrance does during a fire alarm or a power outage?
The owner and the authority having jurisdiction, working from a written sequence the installer provides. Normal, locked, fire and power-failure modes are each described in words before equipment is ordered, then tested at commissioning. Breakaway or emergency behavior, egress and the required clear width limit what that sequence can say, and the fire alarm interface has to match it.
Our access control locks the building at night. Where does the automatic entrance fit into that?
It joins through the access-control interface, which is specified with the activation, presence and safety controls rather than added afterward. After-hours locking is collected before quoting, alongside the fire alarm connection. State in the sequence which credential or schedule releases the entrance in the morning, and what the entrance does when that interface is unavailable.
